As I was reading the July/August issue of Veranda I ran across a new feature ”Labor of Love”. The first interview was with Barbara Barry and about her new secretary with Baker. What struck me was her first response ~
"If you want quality in your life, you want it in everything." She elaborates with " Luxury is not about style or trends. It’s truly craft- a tradition of fine things done well."
This strikes such a chord with me as I see my true passion as bringing true craft in ceramic, glass and mosaics to those that might not know what really exists and is made in the US. Not to say that gorgeous tile is not made in Italy or Spain, it is, but we also have many fine artisans right here.
When looking for something as simple as a blue subway tile you will be amazed at the clarity and depth in a finely crafted tile. The light plays across it and with the change of light you see deeper nuances. Mass produced glazes appear flat and lifeless.
It is not a matter of budget as there are many sources with various price points to achieve a truly beautiful tile installation. Search around, ask questions and I bet you will find something that sparkles.
